In the Spirit of Giving

Established in 1975, the Methodist Medical Center Foundation has generated assets of more than $18 million to be used in support of services to patients and families at Methodist Medical Center, and to advance community wellness and health education.

Generous contributors to the Foundation have made possible such things as Hospice Services, Kourage Kids bereavement camp, College of Nursing Scholarship funds and program development, electronic connectivity for the in-school health program, Pastoral Care training and services, renovation of the hospital chapel, medical research programs, and numerous capital equipment upgrades.

The Foundation also is the beneficiary of the volunteer service provided by the Service League of Methodist Medical Center. The Service League volunteers run the hospital Gift Shop and Flower Shop, hold an annual Gift Show, and conduct several special sales throughout the year that generate proceeds for the hospital. The Service League has funded the mobile mammography unit, the Learning Center for the College of Nursing, new warmers for the nursery, patient recliners, and many other hospital needs that could not have been supported without their help. Over their history, the Service League has raised more than $5 million for the hospital

Gift helps brighten
kids' hospital stays

Methodist Child Life Specialist Carol Weiss needed some new toys and supplies to help her with her job of comforting and teaching young patients. That's where Barbara Spurgeon stepped in. Barb, a past Foundation Board member, member of the Foundation’s President’s Society, and also a Methodist volunteer for many years, made a generous gift to the Foundation to enhance the pediatric experience at Methodist.

"I like to see my gift at work," Barb said, "so I am happy to support Carol's efforts. It is clear that she is making a big difference for children and their parents at Methodist."
