Methodist Opens In- School Health Program at Manual High School

Peoria, Illinois (March 26, 2009)—Methodist Medical Center has expanded its in-school health program with District 150 to include Manual High School. A public open house will be held Thursday, March 26 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., preceded by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m.

Manual is the first high school in the area to have an onsite in-school health program for students. Methodist President and CEO Michael Bryant said, "Methodist is pleased to be able to offer medical services to a segment of our community which might not otherwise receive medical care."

Completed near the first of the year, the new facility is open from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Staffing includes a social worker specialist, Medical Office Assistant and a Nurse Practitioner. While located on the Manual campus, the new facility has its own access to the outside and features three fully equipped exam rooms, a nurses’ center and a waiting area. The clinic also features state-of-the-art electronic medical records provide paperless tracking of patients medical records throughout the Methodist Medical Group system.

Bryant said parents must give written approval for their children to be seen at the clinic. Students can then receive assessment, diagnosis and treatment of minor illness and injury as well as identification of conditions that may need further referral such as asthma, diabetes, or high blood pressure. Students can also receive athletic physicals, immunizations, health screenings and individual and group health education. Parents can call the Manual Health Center at 309-495-8509 to schedule physical appointments.

Methodist Medical Group is the exclusive provider of in-school health programs for District 150, Pekin, Morton, Peoria Heights, Pleasant Valley and PCEEO Head Start and Early Head Start.
