Local Artwork Creates Healing Environment
The new Methodist entrance and lobby features an array of locally produced artwork as part of a "healing environment." Glass artisan Hiram Toraason created Vitality,a 40-foot-long glass sculpture that greets you just inside the front doors. The creation is made up of 240 pieces of hand-blown glass mounted on the wall 13 feet high and depicts a sunset over the Illinois River.
Toraason's work is also part of a donor recognition wall for the Methodist Foundation that includes hand-blown glass flowers encased within lighted glass columns.
The nature photography of Tina Gauwitz, a 26-year Methodist employee, also adds warmth and color to Methodist's new entrance and lobby. More than 15 of Tina's vibrant images of Illinois flora adorn the walls. Tina says, "I believe looking at beautiful flowers and nature pictures helps to relax people, and maybe takes their minds off their daily challenges for a brief moment."
Artwork displayed throughout the new lobby area also includes unique pieces from Don Kettleborough, Tom Gross, Greg DePauw and Michael McKee, all local artists.
