Clinical trials are used to evaluate the benefits, risks, safety and effectiveness of medications, devices, and other treatments. Our involvement in cardiovascular clinical trials allows us to bring the newest and best treatments to Central Illinois.
People who participate in clinical trials can gain access to new treatments before they are available to the general population. They can also help others by contributing to medical research.

Open Studies:
To evaluate the effectiveness of a drug called darbepoetin alfa (Aranespa®) for the treatment of low red blood cell count (anemia) associated with chronic heart failure.
To compare the safety and effectiveness of apixaban to warfarin in preventing stroke or clots in subjects with atrial fibrillation and risk factor for stroke.
To collect data about patients' medical experiences and conditions after treatment of carotid stenosis using one of Abbott Vascular’s carotid stent and embolic protection systems.
To investigate the safety and efficacy of Darusentan in patients who continue to have high blood pressure in spite of three or more medications including a water pill.

Prospective Aneurysm Trial: High Angle Aorfix™ Bifurcated Stent Graft
To assess the efficacy and safety of Omacor® for the prevention of recurrent, symptomatic atrial fibrillation.
This trial will study a new drug called rivaroxaban that acts as blood thinner.
Treatment of Preserved Cardiac function heart failure with an Aldosterone anTagonist
To evaluate if an investigational medication called prasugrel given with aspirin is better than clopidogrel and aspirin for patients who are going to be treated with medicine alone after a heart attack or a hospital stay for angina.
Warfarin vs. Aspirin in Reduced Cardiac Ejection Fraction (WARCEF)
