Smart Heart Scan
The Methodist Smart Heart Scan helps identify your risk for heart disease. You lie on a table and hold your breath while our CT scanner takes a rapid series of x-ray pictures. The images show the amount of calcium build-up in your arteries. Calcium build-up is an indication of atherosclerosis, or "hardening of the arteries." Men and women between the ages of 40 and 65 should consider getting a Smart Heart Scan. It is also recommended for anyone with one or more of the following risk factors:
- High cholesterol
- High blood pressure
- Family history of heart disease
- Diabetes
- History of smoking
- Overweight
- Physical inactivity
- High-stress lifestyle
You do not need a physician referral to schedule your Smart Heart Scan. When you call to schedule your appointment, you will be asked to provide us with a major credit card number. When you arrive for your appointment, you can either sign authorization for us to bill your credit card, or pay by check. Your insurance company may or may not cover the cost of this screening.
