Steps to Healing
Your Methodist Comprehensive Spine and Pain Center team will answer your questions and make sure you are comfortable with your treatment. We will guide you through the following steps to pain relief and greater function:
Your Physician Visit: What to Expect
During your first visit, your doctor will talk with and listen to you, examine you, and review your medical history. Based on your examination, your doctor may order a test, such as an X-ray, MRI, or CT scan, to help diagnose what’s causing your pain.
The First Choice: Non-Surgical Options
Whenever possible, the first treatment option will be non-surgical. Physical therapy, biofeedback, and pain psychology are just a few of the treatment options that have offered real and lasting results to our patients.
We also offer non-surgical procedures done in our outpatient procedure room. Arthritis, herniated discs, and tissue swelling can press on sensitive nerves causing pain. Medications can sometimes be injected close to these nerves using precise x-ray guidance. These procedures can decrease swelling and relieve pressure on the nerves, reducing or eliminating pain.
Sometimes Surgery Is Necessary
In rare instances, spine conditions require surgery. Your care team uses the latest and least invasive surgical procedures to improve your function and speed you to healing sooner. And you can rest assured that medical evidence has proven these treatments effective.
Becoming Active Again
Because your muscles support your body's foundation - the spine - your physical therapist will help you rebuild strength, mobility, and flexibility. You will learn movements to avoid reinjury. Exercises will aid your daily improvement and will help to prevent or control pain.
Education: Learn More, Heal Sooner
Learning more about your condition can decrease anxiety and help you heal faster. We teach you about the cause of your pain. The more you learn about your condition, the better you will understand your treatment options and how you can improve your quality of life.
