Methodist Wellmobile

The Methodist Wellmobile is a massive consumer education program designed to promote healthier living among Central Illinois residents. Our free or low cost screenings, are conducted by caring and trained Methodist Medical Center staff who travel throughout Central Illinois educating members of the community on issues including healthy living, early detection of disease, as well as, disease prevention and treatment. It is our hope that patients and physicians use our services to monitor the improvement of results during dietary, lifestyle or medication changes.

Methodist Wellmobile Ankle Brachial Index Screening
Description: Through the assessment of blood pressures in both arms and ankles, the Wellmobile is able to determine a person’s risk for peripheral artery disease (PAD). This disease causes the narrowing of the arteries to the arms, legs and internal organs, and increases a person's risk for heart attack or stroke. Blood glucose/cholesterol, blood pressure and spirometry are also included with this screening.
Requirements: An 8-12 hour fast is required for the blood glucose/cholesterol portion of the screening. Participant must have clean and dry feet and be able to remove shoes, socks or stockings. No appointment necessary.

Methodist Wellmobile Blood Pressure Screening
Description: This screening can assess an individual’s risk for heart disease or stroke. It is offered as a portion of all other Wellmobile screenings, but may be conducted alone at a number of outdoor and evening screenings.
Requirements: No appointment necessary.

Methodist Wellmobile Cholesterol/Blood Glucose Screening
Description: This screening requires a small blood sample from the finger. It measures total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), triglycerides levels, the ratio of total cholesterol to HDLs as well as, blood glucose. These factors help to determine an individual’s risk for heart attack, stroke and/or Diabetes. Blood glucose/cholesterol, blood pressure and spirometry are also included with this screening.
Requirements: An 8-12 hour fast is required for the blood glucose/cholesterol portion of the screening. No appointment is necessary.

Methodist Wellmobile Heart Screening
Description: This screening includes a full electrocardiogram (EKG), which may detect abnormalities in the rhythm of the heart. These abnormalities may indicate an increased risk for heart attack or stroke. Blood glucose/cholesterol, blood pressure and spirometry are also included with this screening.
Requirements: An 8-12 hour fast is required for the blood glucose/cholesterol portion of the screening. Participant must be able to remove their shirt for this screening. We recommend wearing a button down shirt. No appointment necessary.

Methodist Wellmobile Heel Scan Screening
Description: This screening is recommended for women over the age of 50. A radiation free assessment measures an individual’s bone mass in comparison to peak female bone mass to determine risk of osteoporosis. Blood glucose/cholesterol, blood pressure and spirometry are also included with this screening.
Requirements: An 8-12 hour fast is required for the blood glucose/cholesterol portion of the screening. Participant must have clean and dry feet and be able to remove shoes, socks or stockings. No appointment necessary.

Methodist Wellmobile Prostate Screening
Description: This screening is recommended for men over the age of 50. A blood draw from the arm is analyzed in the lab and results are mailed to the patient. These results indicate a possible risk of Prostate Cancer. Blood glucose/cholesterol, blood pressure and spirometry are also included with this screening.
Requirements: An 8-12 hour fast is required for the blood glucose/cholesterol portion of the screening. No appointment necessary.

Methodist Wellmobile Spirometry Screening
Description: This screening tests pulmonary function of the lungs to determine an individual’s risk for emphysema, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or other related diseases of the lungs. Spirometry is included with all other Wellmobile screenings.
Requirements: An 8-12 hour fast is required for the blood glucose/cholesterol portion of the screening. Must be under age 80 to participate.
