Complications & Mortality

A complication is any condition that develops during your hospital stay that prolongs the length of stay.  The complication rate is determined by the number of complications divided by the total number of cases.

The mortality rate measures the number of deaths per total number of hospital discharges.  It is adjusted to take into account "expected" deaths from terminal conditions.

Unless you click on the data and ratings for additional detail,
you will see an incomplete picture of our performance.

What does this mean to me? Fewer people die at Methodist compared to the national average at other hospitals.
